Overview

The sun rises over your hotel as you set out on your walking tour adventure.

Leaving from the comforts of your room in Funchal on the Madeira Islands, we’ll drive you up to the third highest peak in Madeira – the magnificent Pico Arieiro.

You’ll sip coffee or a drink on your way up to the base of the peak, looking out at all the stunning beauty this place has to offer. As we head from sea level up to the base at 5,964ft (1818m), you’ll pass beautiful flora and fauna. Finally, we’ll begin our mighty walk up the mighty Pico Arieiro up to the highest point on the island, the Pico Ruivo peak at 6107 ft (1862m).

Finally, we’ll walk down to Teixeira where you’ll be comfortably transferred back to your hotel. And of course, no day of hiking is complete without a drink at a traditional bar, so we’ll make sure to stop at one with a spectacular view to enjoy the closing of your day!

Stunning scenery and a knowledgeable and friendly guide

Great and informative tour. The trip is spaced out well to allow everyone to complete the hike at their place but also enjoy some of the top sights. The trail is incredibly beautiful and the perfect length for a strenuous but doable day hike.

Beautiful walk, very nice guide (Gloria)... Everything great!

It was excellent! Even though I had backpain the guide suggested me an alternative route so that I have seen the beauty of the mountains too.

Stunning hike

We were lucky and had some great weather so the views were stunning throughout. I would recommend doing this hike with a guide (although you can easily do so without) as it meant that the group was provided with lots of info about the local flora and the route itself, plus being dropped off/picked up was super convenient! I would recommend this hike for people of moderate fitness and up as there are some very steep sections that took their toll!

What an adventure!

Gloria was a great guide. The group was able to move at their own paces but Gloria would manage to bring us all together to share information/history along the route. This truly is a difficult hike in potentially rainy conditions so you need to be prepared for anything. I would only suggest this hike if you are in good shape and dont mind stairs, mud, and lots of inclines.

This tour you should make

It was great trip. Well organized. Peace was adjusted to every member of group. We went in small group of 11 people. Guide told as lot of facts about plants, peaks and Madeira itself. This hike is excellent. Spectacular views all the way. Hike is of moderate difficulty. If you do few mountain hikes per year you should be ok. We did hike in excellent weather. Can be much more difficult in bad weather. Be prepared for cold, windy and even rainy weather.
