To talk about Madeira is also to mention Cristiano Ronaldo…
He is, after all, the best football player in the world, followed, idolized and recognized in the four corners of the globe.
Whoever travels the world, feels the strength that his name has. It is not by chance that when mentioning the island of Madeira, the name of Cristiano Ronaldo comes right after and vice versa.
Our airport is called Aeroporto da Madeira Cristiano Ronaldo.
In Funchal, another place that deserves the attention of Ronaldo’s fans is the Hotel Pestana CR7 Funchal. This hotel has 49 rooms inspired by the player’s lifestyle and a personalized training program created by CR7 for hotel guests. The pool on the rooftop deck offers superb views of Funchal Bay.
The restaurant on the ground floor has a lovely terrace area and offers delicious pizzas or burgers.
Right next to the hotel you can find the CR7 Museum where you can know up close, all the details of his football career.
The first goals as a child, in the Andorinha and National Football Clubs; his transfer to Lisbon, to play for Sporting Clube Portugal (when he was just 12 years old), the international leap to Manchester and finally the arrival at Real Madrid, his current club. The incredible contribution he made to the National Team, helping Portugal to become the European Champion in 2016, is also in highlight.
These moments are presented in various forms in the CR7 museum.
At the entrance, you can see his statue, the work of Ricardo Velosa, which is the scene of many photographs, excitement and smiles.
Inside the museum, you can admire each of the trophies won to date, especially the four golden balls, and four golden boots, right in the middle of the corridors. There is also a small video projection that conveys the euphoria of these moments.
You can see his vast collection of trophies, autographed sweaters, football shoes, medals, photographs and messages from the furthest places in the world. It’s touching to observe the affection which the children address to the player, in their perfectly coloured drawings and letters.
There are also two wax statues of the player, one with the T-shirt of the Portuguese team and another with the T-shirt of Real Madrid, where you can imagine what it will be like to be side by side with Cristiano.
Want to take a “selfie” with the best player in the world?
There are several machines where you can do it and even customise your photo with your favourite trophy – the golden ball or the golden boot. You can also take a virtual photo with Cristiano Ronaldo in an environment that simulates a football stadium.
Another attraction of this museum, for football fans, is the interactive panel, which displays on a giant screen and in chronological order, the highlights of Cristiano Ronaldo’s football career; the best goals, the winning moments and many other emotional episodes.
On the way out, visit the museum shop. You can buy the CR7 t-shirt, golden boot and golden ball miniatures, scarves, backpacks, watches and some local products such as honey cake, Madeira wine and Madeira embroidery, personalised with the CR7 logo.
The entrance to the CR7 Museum costs € 5.
Whether or not you’re a football fan of Cristiano Ronaldo, you will not be indifferent to the history, career, achievements and talent of the best football player in the world. “SIIIIIIIIM”!
